Mentorship

Meet a few of the undergraduates I have worked with and hear what they have to say:

Marlene

Undergraduate Major: Comparative Human Development

Experience: "I spent all four years of college working in the Spatial Intelligence and Learning Center on Eliza's projects. Eliza made an effort to include me in everything from the everyday activities of the lab like coding and participant interaction to bigger picture activities like experiment design and critiques. During my senior year, Eliza went above and beyond and served as one of my advisers for my senior thesis project, an effort that required a significant amount of time and attention on her part. Without Eliza's support, my project would have never been possible and I likely would not have worked to achieve honors in my major. Because Eliza took the time to get to know me as a student, I was fortunate enough to work on a project that aligned with my interests and of which I am incredibly proud. Likewise, Eliza's guidance on the project pushed me to learn aspects of data analysis and problem solving that have already proven useful in my post-graduate career. Overall, I consider myself incredibly lucky to have had Eliza Congdon as a mentor during college. Of all of the faculty I encountered at the University of Chicago, I believe Eliza impacted my growth as a student and thinker the most positively. I cannot express my gratitude to her enough!"

Maria

Undergraduate Major: Psychology

Experience: "Working with Eliza was such an incredible learning experience. I was able to read papers, set up for experiments, and then conduct experiments which really allowed me to see all sides of psychology research. Eliza was always so willing to sit and discuss any wonderings or thoughts I had. Working with Eliza really helped fuel my love for understanding how children grow developmental which is so helpful since I'm a teacher!! She is a phenomenal mentor and so dedicated to her work!"

Julia

Undergraduate Major: Economics

Experience: "I had the pleasure of working with Eliza when I was a student research assistant at the University of Chicago. She is extremely passionate about her field of studies, and her dedication to developmental psychology inspired those around her including myself. Eliza not only is great at what she does, but also is an amazing friend and a mentor who does not hesitate to devote her time and energy for others. She truly is an amazing person on both professional and personal level!"

William

Undergraduate Major: Psychology

Experience: "Eliza was an excellent mentor who helped me get involved with research for the first time and encouraged me to make my own contributions. She was also full of advice and was a great help during the application process for graduate school and is one of the reasons I am now at UCLA."

Frankie

Undergraduate Major: Psychology

Experience: "I have been working with Eliza since June 2015. In the time I've worked with Eliza, I have helped with coding and transcribing various projects, as well as with running subjects in several different studies."

Lorenzo

Undergraduate Major: Psychology

Experience: "Working in the lab with Eliza was an immensely rewarding experience. Helping design and test a study procedure helped me learn not just how research is conducted, but why."
